Brewers This Season So Far

- By Kavin Caruso (Georgia)

Okay, okay, so the Brewers are in a 3 way tie in 1st place with the St. Louis Cardinals and surprising Pittsburgh Pirates. The Milwaukee Brewers finished a 5-6 road stand, lost yesterday 2-1 to the San Francisco Giants. They might have won that game if not for utility man Josh Wilson's miscue.

They have a sub .500 road record at 21-35, but at home, 33-14 WOW! If not for their dismal road record, the Brewers might be ahead in the division by 11 games. Tomorrow they start a 9 game home stand. They play the Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros, and the St. Louis Cardinals.

In order to win the division they HAVE to beat the playoff caliber teams. Later in August, Brewers meet the Pittsburgh Pirates in Milwaukee and in Pittsburgh. The NL Central is weak, but because most of the teams in the division are small market teams; they need to win as much as they can so they can keep their core players. Brewers might not have Prince Fielder next season, so they want to win the division this season.

The Brewers do have a strong rotation, especially with Zack Greinke on the team. He has done well for the club, including a home run to his offensive achievement.

I am hoping Shaun Marcum or Yovani Gallardo can win 20 games this season. Brewers haven't had a 20 game winner since Teddy Higuera in 1986; Gallardo and Marcum does have a chance for that to happen.
